I remember years ago reading about a project where a turbine was shoehorned in. Don't ask me how, but the article said the vette was a good cantidate because it had such a long front end.
I dont think the v12 would fit...dont think you could move the mounts almost 9" forward. Maybe you could put the rad in the passenger seat? Or better use dual rads as t-tops.
No idea if the viper v10 would fit...would be a definate kick in the pants vs the L48 or L82 tho.
A GN Turbo...Im sure that could be made to fit and would be fun. Anything that puts out that kinda HP would be fun...
TDI. Dunno...only seen them in econoboxes...is there one that puts out a few more ponies? The way gas prices are going this may not be a bad idea...
Rotary engines... Little miata engine isnt going to to much for a vette....too much car. Miata's are little bitty things that weigh nothing. These are not good on gas either...comparatively speaking.
Fuel cell/electric. Neither one of these is a real solution nor much fun. Just an expensive bandaid that masks the real problems of burning dwindling fossil fuel supplies. Solar cells would be the perfect solution, but they need to make some big leaps in efficiency, price, and durability.
a turbine... bigget kick in the pants, no worries about thrashing driveline parts, no burning up tires, no saving up for that tremac 5 speed, darn near unlimited top speed, find out once and for all if the c3 curves will really make your car fly or not. Downsides would be really really bad gas milage, making the dog piddle on the floor every time you fire it up, that hole in the back of the garage when you backed it in last time, and a pretty much gauranteed ticket for noise every time you drive it.
Hey man, if a v12 is too long I know where a 1947 American Lafrance fire truck is sitting in a barn (no joke). I remember when I was a teen working on this thing with my dad and driving it around his parking area. Get this: 2 spark plugs/cyl, two small carbs, two dist., very low revs and I bet a ton of torque. Dad thought the engine was designed to run on half if it had to? Wow, it just occured to me the treasures I saw in small town America.
