saw this on ebay....are home media blasters not worth the trouble? Are they really this cheap or are they more trouble than they are worth.
Useful / Not useful?
Planning my garage.
Once you have one you will use it so much you will not beleive it. It great for rust removel and paint prep of steel items. Just make sure it is big enough for stuff like A-Arms. Items need to be de-greased before you blast as the grease gums up the gun.
My neighbor and I recently purchased a similar unit. You can get them for this price at most car shows or tool shows. The problem we encountered is that the seals are not very effective and you end up with media all around the immediate area of the blasting cabinet and in the air because these inexpensive models do not seal very well around the door and other openings (air attachment, line filter attachment point, etc)
Another friend has a good quality unit that he paid significantly more for, and he has no problems with leaks and it also holds larger itmes. Bottom line appears to be that "you get what you pay for".

thats like the one i have.........you need lots of SCFM at 80- 90 psi to make it work or it takes forever....you also need to vent it properly or it makes quite a mess....we will only use ours outside anymore....they are nice though
I actually have this exact model and can tell you that is not a first class setup. It does get the job done and I cleaned a lot of parts in mine. I wish it was a better unit but I don't regret purchasing it.
1) It will leak at every crack. You will have to assemble it so take your time and RTV all the places it bolts together. That will leave only the top door as a leak point. When I use it I actually put masking tap all around the top door. I will have a few part in there at a time so I am not opening and closing it.
2) The gun is cheap and the hoses are held on with hose clamps. You will find to get a good blast you need to have your air pressure set up high enough that the hoses will like to come off. Spend some case at the local hardware and get some rugged clamp for the hoses.
Like I said it got the job done for me. Considering what it costs to have this done at a shop it's money well spent.
I purchased mine for $48 at a traveling tool show.

mine came assembled from HF and the only mod i did to it was to drill the pick up tube every 1/2" for the length of it and to cable tie it down....this way it is always drawing in the blast media and does not get clogged....and i'm using a huge compressor so the air draw is not an issue
