Might just be good marketing by Jeg's. If you buy the motor from them, chances are you'll order a bunch of extra "goodies" while filling out the order form.

Did u try ur local Chevy dealer for a price match? U may be surprised. Check for R&R labor/cost too. U could get a package deal with a local warrenty. That 290/350 or the old LM1 should be direct bolt in for '73 L82.

Check your local dealer. Their price should be similiar. Let them know you are serious if the price is matched. Go there with cash in hand. They may not want to special order something unless they have the full payment.
I used to use Jegs. Good service and all of that, but now I mainly use corvette places. If I need something non-corvette specific Jegs is my first stop!

I like Vette Brakes, and Doc Rebuild, sometimes Ecklers, but I think I will be using the first two more. I have tried them all, can't beat either VBP or the Doc!
Got my LM1 from Greenwood Chevrolet in OH, they have the LM1 for $1275 + $100 core, might see of they can get the upgraded one you are looking at and feigh should not be too bad. Might be able to order it over the net to avoid sales tax.

Trust me, you can get the LM1 with 1/6 rpclers and and upgraded cam and gain 50 HP. I did not know that when I bought my crate LM1 about 5 years ago and I am so sorry I was unaware of the upgrade. I was a novice at the time and took the advice of the dealer who I "trusted".

The small 454s sell for $9,995 with iron heads or $10,495 aluminum, and both are covered by a two-year or 24,000-mile insurance policy that covers them for up to $4,000 in repairs. But 24,000 miles? Yup--they run on 91 octane and they're designed and built to drive forever.
AHH GEEEZZZZ!!!! I forgot a small bit of info on that crate engine...
What kind of power can you expect? The engine comes in an iron-head version advertised at 575 hp and 565 lb-ft, or an aluminum-head version that makes 600 hp and 575 lb-ft. Our test engine has aluminum heads, and we independently dyno'd it with an electric water pump and 13/4-inch-tube headers with 3-inch exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers to obtain the power numbers seen in the chart; the peaks were 610 hp at 6,400 rpm and 584 lb-ft at 4,500--that's 100 more horsepower and the same torque as a 502 Chevy! Every World Products engine we've ever tested has made slightly more than its advertised power.
