Just wondering if anyone elminated the fan shroud all together and beside loosing hands and fingers what would be the down fall of getting rid of it. I hate the way they look or is there an aftermarket chrome shroud ect.

If you remove it, the car will overheat.
Not sure if there are any chrome shrouds available, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are.
The downfall of getting rid of it would be overheating problems, and these cars run hot enough the way it is. I would definiately not get rid of it because you don't like the way it looks unless you have an alternative cooling solution figured out, such as electric fans. Just my 2 cents.
hirevroller,
Listen to the others, you NEED the shroud. GM would not have gone to the trouble to design a low volume part that only fits Corvettes if it was not needed. Of course, you SHOULD be thinking about an electric fan set-up as virtually every late model car runs one. BUT, they work best when fitted to a fan shroud that allows ALL of the air that enters the radiator core to travel through it.
I made one (a shroud) for my 74 L82 and it works a treat with a big 16" electric fan. I made a buck from MDF and body filler, then took a fibreglass mold off it and then flopped out a shroud. If I knew how to do it, I would post some photos here, but trust me, it works.

Also, if you go electric fans, you will need a bigger alternator.
