When I had my 71 repainted, I left the luggage rack holes. In retrospect it might have been a mistake but I do like to have it around. My question is, has anyone run across plugs that you could put in the holes when the rack isn't on? Some low profile rubber gizmo? I'd put the standard mounting plugs in, but it looks a bit unfinished that way. Then there's the third option of popping for a new stainless rack and hardware...
Go to lowes in the hardware section, in one of the drawers they have nylon hole plugs, 9/16, they are black, but you can paint them body color, this is what Im using, I asked the same question a few months ago, my car was just painted before I got It and they never had the holes filled, and I dont like luggage racks.
thanks, those were closer to what I had in mind, no corrosion. I like your car, hope mine looks as good when I get done. Nothing like an "I'm begging for a ticket" red Corvette! How do you like the Eagle GTII's? I had a set of first gen Eagles and loved them. But I wore them out on another car when I tore this one down for paint. Another question, are those the stock width rims? They look a little farther out than my 8X15s. If so are they 25560R15's? I like the plenty of rubber look.
Thanks for the compliment, the rims are the stock width, the tires seem to do pretty good in dry and wet weather the sidewalls seems to give a lot when you go into sharp turns but im probably used to the newer cars with 17" tires and very little sidewall, but it is not as rough of a ride with more sidewall, Im not sure what size tires I have on them, I dont remember for sure and I have the car stored for the winter at my wifes grandmothers house or I would run out and check for you,
Yeah i had a luggage rack too. They look horrible on verts. I went down to ther local hardware, found some 1/4 in. plastic plugs and pushed them in place. took a little touch-up. Voila. Luggage racks may look cute on Richie Cunninghams Hudson but on my 68 roadster it looked like sht.
