Any suggestions on one for my '79? I saw one at Target for $19.99, and there's a few in the various Corvette catalogs...is there something specific I need to be looking for? Thanks!

Aren't some of them rated as "automotive". I think that is all you need to worry about. I've been to some car shows that give "extra" points or attendance prizes to cars that have a fire extinguisher on board.

If memory serves, A type is for paper only, B & C types are for the type of stuff found on a 'vette. Most new extinguishers are A-B-C type. Halon is better and more expensive, no residue left after using, but I understand they are not making this type any more because of a possible cancer hazard.
I got my A-B-C powder type at WallyWorld, a 2 1/2 lb. I think, for about $20. Better to clean up powder residue than have the car burn.

Here in NJ the Pep Boys Sunday advertisment flyer usually has a "2 pack" special on sale nearly every week for about $15. Put one in the vette and the other in your daily driver.
The mounting bracket is held in place by the front seatrail bolts. The vendor used to be a supporter of the Forum but I cannot locate him now. I got this one during a group purchase about two years agp.

I have two fire extinguishers on my 71. I have a fairly large ABC fire extinquisher, and another one that is permenantly mounted behind the seats. In the event of an engine fire, i pull the handle, and it floods the engine bay with fire retardent. It cost me about $200 and i installed it myself. It gives me so much more confidence in my investment. Also, it allows you to attack the fire without ever having to open the hood, should that be the source of the blaze

dry chemical extinguisher: the last and best for automotive or general use. It will not freeze, can be used on type A, B, and C fires, and will put out the largest fire of the three types of extinguisher. The only disadvantage is the mess in the area sprayed.
Now if I can just get my wife to learn to take it out instead of her purse.Had two scares, and both times she bailed out without it.
