The high-stall torque converter will conspire to prevent wheelspin. Have you tried launching the car (you know...hold the brakes in drive and bring the rpms up to the converter's stall speed -- then release the brakes!)

Yes,if i brake it and bring the rpms up it will spin. Had a new stock conv. and it was so tight it was hard to put in gear without stalling the engine and it woulnt break the tires loose either. I am only running stock 225/70-15 tires, new 9 leaf spring that i thought would help and still no luck.

Your '77 probably has a 3.08 or a 3.37 rear end in it.... you'll be hard pressed to light the tires up with the stock gears, although the car should do well on the highway.

Had 308s,just had the rear rebuilt and changed to 355s thinking this would solve my problem, engine builder told me it was 9.5 to1 comp. and 330hp.Tried the stk conv.and the b&m 2400 with the 308s,not luck and switched to 355s.

as the tires age they will spin.
my tires are 7 yrs old w/2/3 tread left. new thy stuck like glue, now they are dangerous.
OTOH, a stroker crank kit to 396 or even 383 would do the trick now.
