Doing some work a few weeks ago, my temp sending wire got smashed. The gauge pegged out all the way to the right but engine was not running hot. I found the cut in the wire tonight and fixed it but the gauge is still maxed out. Will this correct itself or do I have to do something else to get it showing correct temp again?
I had the same problem with my 77. Replaced gauge, sending unit, and wiring. It still pegged when I turned the key on. Today, I went for a drive of about 40 miles and noticed that the temp guage, while pegged, seemed to bounce slightly to the music I was playing. Got home and checked the ground on my stereo - it was grounded to the standard wiring harness ground. Changed the ground on the stereo and now the temp guage works. I don't understand but am happy.
