Pure speculation, but I know that when I got my car, they had cobbled together a set of plug wires that were from several different sets. The 81's have those shorty headers that require odd routing so you almost have to make a custom set. Perhaps your mechanic did the same thing but didn't like that they looked llike several different sets.

Not a good reason, but a reason.

That's an option for cars 25+ years old. The up-side is not having to smog it. The down-side is you're not supposed to drive it to work or the store, no big deal for most of you.

The other smog loophole is if you live 50+ miles from the nearest DMV. If I lived in Julian I'd never have to smog my car, if I lived in Ramona, I'd only have to do a basic smog test (no visual). If you sell the car you have to have it smogged regardless of where you live.

Hope that clears up any "myths."
I meant no offense so I retract the word myth.
The link I provided is directly to the relevant law passed in the 2003-2004 legislative session and it mentions the collector status specifically. Look at page 2, paragraph 2 and you will see my point. The car must be registered collector AND be 35 years old.

Have you registered your vehicle as a "Vehicle of Historic Value" yet?

Please post a pic when you do.

Glad I live in the backasswards state of Mississippi!! No smog, No cat, No computer, and just got an inspection sticker from the muffler shop that cut my cat out and put in my true dual exhaust. What a place, huh?

Just being on this forum has somewhat restored my faith in my fellow man, however of late I've learned the true meaning of the "Joke" (Just because your paranoid , doesn't mean their not out to get you), It just seems in the last 5 to 10 years any time you turn a possesion over to anyone for any thing, your lucky if you even get it back, much less any thing done with any concientiousness at all. Sorry you got FUBABRED.
