The motor for the power window on the driver side of my 76 died 2days ago with the window about 2ins from being all of the way down and i can not fix this problem
I tried to use wire to go directly from the bat to the motor to get it going but it did not work
then i desided to just pull the motor and buy a new one but all of the directions for pulling it out say that the window has to be all of the way up to be able to do so........ so i am stuck
I believe you should be able to loosen the motor enough to dis-engage it from the gear on the regulator. You should then be able to push or pull the window up enough to complete the removal process.
If you have a service manual, read the instructions and note that the motor and regulator normally come out together as one piece. Then you have to put power to it and bump the window channel to alighn the hole thru the two pieces of the regulator , so you can bolt them together to keep the spring from unwinding while removing the motor. So procede with caution.
On the power to the motor thing, you do know that the housing is the ground and both leads are power, one for up and one for down.
When I did mine I removed the window and the regulator and motor completly. This way you can clean out the tracks and check the spring for wear and replace what is needed.
