My fuel gauge seems to be working, but when the tank is empty the gauge reads 1/2... when the tank is full, the gauge reads 1/2 tank past full.. Hope I've confused everyone.
Is it possible to calibarte the gauge, move the pointer so that full reads full?

The sending unit can be repaired. There's fixed resistance values for the Pot. on the sender, and it can be rewired so the resistances are correct. They usually put a new float on it too at the same time.

I'd be willing to guess that your sending unit is ok and that your gauge is out of calibration. Its kinda rare to happen cause someone had to remove the needle and stick it on in the wrong place...You're right it does need to be calibrated.
few things one that gauge(68-82) is calibrated to Empty not full like the 53-67 cars were.
looking at the gauge from the back you have three post/studs that come out of the back of the pan...12/6/9 positions
Take the needle off and gently press the shaft coming from the gauge back down a little, most the time when you pull the needle off the shaft comes up enough making it "not in its correct place".
If you apply 12volts to the 6 oclock position and ground to 12oclock
press the needle down on E (empty) switching the wires on the gauge will reverse the readings ...gauge should sweep past full when but should stop at E.
Maybe I haven't confused you too bad.If you have any questions of need any help feel free to email me I'd be gald to help.

Thanks for everyone's input. I was actually able to take the gauge panel apart and gently nudge he fuel gauge back over to it's correct position. I'm not sure what caused it to move......
