Default Clutch Return Spring question

Quick question...

There is a return spring on the clutch for a '79 and probably other models.... This spring connects to the Z-bar on one end.... and to the firewall someplace on the other end.... It returns the pedal to the "up" position after depressing the clutch. Where in the world on the firewall does this spring attach? I've looked all over in that area and cannot locate a place that this spring would appear to hook to on the firewall or anywhere else.

Help! Thanks.

I think it hooks to the reverse lookout bracket. I think its a slot not a hole.

Reverse lockout bracket? Hmmm...

The spring I'm referencing attaches to a hole in the Z-bar on the frame side.... and then must attach somewhere to the to firewall just under where the steering column comes through. At least, I'm not sure where else it could possibly attach.

At least on my '68, the firewall attachment point is more of a plate or a bracket that is riveted to the firewall and has a hole in it for the end of the spring. I had to look hard for mine because bubba had been there before. Anyway, it's right around where the steering column goes through the firewall and it may be covered up in grime/dirt, etc. If you have an Assembly Instruction Manual, it should help you get the general idea.

Thanks... I'll look again. I've looked and seen nothing like that, but perhaps it's been removed or something.

I saw that hole in the manual, but it is not present on my car - so I found a "gap" in that plate where it sits on the firewall and forced the end of the spring in there - it works perfect!

On my 78' it is below the rod,and attaches to a bracket on the firewall, just outboard of the steering column.Maybe you can feel it,or look up from underneath the Car.
