Default HEI distributor

Hey guys
Got another question for y'all. I'm thinking about getting a new HEI distributor to go on my 71. Not going to buy it right away but looking at getting one in the future. I've been looking at MSD distributors because of course...it's MSD. Would one of these be a good one to go with. Being a 71, I have the gear driven tach. I don't want to go with the Pro-Billet series because I will have to put a box in with it. All I want is the distributor. I had the motor rebuilt last summer but didn't change the distributor. Bored .020, .462/.482 lift cam with 219/229 at .50 duration, hooker headers, edelbrock performer aluminum high rise intake, edelbrock carb, flat top pistons, about 8.5-9x1 CR, just to let you guys know.

If you have the dough, go for the pro billet with a 6AL. The neat thing about that setup is that it fires the plugs 3 times instead of once, below 3K rpm. Plus you can change rev limits.

Mid America has an HEI tach drive direct replacement distributor on clearanc right now for $400. www.madvet.com Little cheaper then the MSD set up...obviously you can't run all that nice chrome underneath the hood since it won't fit. I've been thinking about that, but I might go with the MSD setup isosceles is talking about. Haven't made up my mind yet either.

I've thought about converting, but I'd rather keep that original look. The 75 tachs are different. I know the engine is modified, but that would have stayed the same had the oil pressure line not broke.

Could you install the earlier tach face on the 75-77 electronic tach body?

I found an HEI distrib with tach drive on ebay a while back, the guy was selling them for about the same as the catalogs (400) but back in Dec. I caught one of his auctions & he must have had the christmas spirit in him because it had a buy it now option for $210, which is what I snatched it up for.
