Default BB intake manifold?

For a 1970 454 ci ONLY.... is the original intake manifold aluminum or cast iron and is the correct casting number 3977608 for it

I don't know, but I'd bet cast iron...

My book lists two intakes both aluminum for the 454 - 3955287 & 3969802. I don't find your number listed at all.

Sorry-just rechecked my 68-82 restoration guide appendix and its obviously a misprint listing both above #'s as aluminum. The main text in the guide states in 70-72 only the LT1 & LT6 were aluminum the rest were cast iron.

The 390 HP 454 in 1970 was definitly a cast iron, low rise, spread bore intake with the casting #3955287. Just looked at the one I have stored in the garage.

The 69 427 390hp had an aluminium version......didn't stop to look at that one for a casting # but I could check if anyone needs it.
