Default Rotor prices

I am looking at new rotors for my 1980, it's got 100K miles on the original.
So, I go to Checker / Shucks / Kragen - they carry Raybestos "BruteStop" slotted rotors - $75 each side in the store, or $70 / side on-line at cskauto.com

Napa has a set of slotted rotors going for $65.00 each side.

Autozone has regular "Duralast" rotors for $59, or for some real fun, a pair of Baer Decela rotors for $254.00 !! Drilled and slotted.

I am thinking of a set of slotted rotors and the Performance Friction ceramic pads from Autozone.

Has anyone tried any of these slotted rotors and have you seen any improvement? I know I will hear that it's over kill for the street, but I do occasionally road race the Vette, and last time I heated them up so bad I cooked the fluid and the pedal has never been right since.

Hello,
I have put the slotted rotors on my 86. That was mainly for appearence because you can see the rotors with the mag rims that I am running on that car.

But for my 73, I dont know that I would go with the slotted or drilled rotors. There was a lot of discussion on why the rotors are slotted, and if the brake performance really needed it, or if it was really a sales issue to get people to buy these types of rotors for the hype. Some people said that the drilled rotors will lead to cracking due to excessive heat or wear when used. But the slotted ones should work ok and allow for residue removal build up from the slots, instead of glazing on the pads. That was the summary from my discussions on the C4 website.

The price of a rotor will run between $65 - $100 for normal C3 rotors depending on the store and name brand.

I use the PF ceramic metalic pads. Keep the box and receipt and they give you new ones when they ware out.

Rotors I imagine like everything else you get what you pay for.

I will say that if your having problems with brake fluid switch to DOT 4 synthetic and use a power bleeder or vacuum bleeder to get all the old stuff out. Compress the calipers with the bleeds open and get as much of the old out as you can.

This is kind of my setup. Vette Brakes didn't have a picture of the 1/2 inch stud rotors. So this is the smaller stock 7/16ths studs just so you can see them.

Unsprung weight is the reason for aluminum hubs. Norval did this on his new 14 inch front rotors.

Name: Corvette Rotor Assy 69-82 (1/2 Studs)
ID: 13752

Manufacturer: Vette Brakes & Products, Inc.

Desc: Front Aluminum Hub with Rotor Assemblies Precision machined from 6061 aircraft aluminum, these hubs are matched to heavy duty vented rotors.
Price: $269.95

these are the best calipers made for stock mounted C-3's - lifetime warranty.

ID: 12175
Name: Car Set New Delco Calipers 65-82
Desc: Stainless Steel Sleeved New DELCO Castings with Patented O-Ring Pistons and Seals.
More Info
Sale Price: $479.95

How do you like the PF pads? Do they stop well? Squeal? Lots of dust?

All carbon fiber have a certian amount of black dust. Not squeaky. when they are cold they make some noise. Just a quick stomp on the brakes and it goes away.

If you get 100,000 on a set of rotors aluminum hubs might just be the last set you ever buy. 1/2 inch studs are so beefy. Just a set of new lug nuts. You really need to move up to dot 4 oil. I change my brake oil a couple of times a year. It's just cheap maintenance cost. keep the water and rust out of the lines.

rockauto.com has the Raybestos BruteStop for about $55 each.
I will not spend any extra $ on drilling or slotting.
The Raybestos PGPlus (original type) are $23 each.
