Im doing a big block conversion om my 80 and id like to keep the existing a/c unit in the car on the diabolical performance web sight under big block conversion it states that they dont recomend it but it may be possible to use an a/c bracket from 1977 & newer big-block truck may work any help on possibly what truck to look for or if will even work would be appreciated thanks guys
I've been going back and forth on putting a big block in my '77 -- I also have the smaller ac compressor. I'm not sure if this ac compressor was ever used with a short water pump. If it was the bracket on that vehicle should work. I figured when the time came I would just cut and weld a couple of brackets or maybe if lucky be able to just redrill the '77 bracket to mate to the big block head.
Havent had to many problems with the conversion yet ecklers sure is a good place to get parts from im looking at an underdrive pully system that will work real well and put some bling to it TOO !. I bought my 1980 specifically for a 454 conversion the newest c3 body style without the notoriuos crossfire injection.im keeping all the parts i pull off so at a later date i can put the original L48 back in also i huge part to my success has been to diabolical performance.just by finding this web sight saved me alot of money.due to the fact that my corvette parts guy was trying to make a buck off me by selling me parts i didnt need like replacing the relay rod ,pitman arm assembly alot of work for something that doesnt need to be replaced i think he thought that i was just another young punk who doesnt know his corvette.BUT he was wrong.
I have two different ideas for the hood. ive got a high rise manifold and 780 double pumper so im going to either cut a perfect sized hole through the hood exposing a polished aluminum butterfly scoop a saw on ebay. this idea i would enjoy its a challenge.Or buying a fiberglass mold in L-88 hood scoop from jc whitney i think its called.very cheap under a hundered buck ! the only thing idont like about the first idea is rain i dont drive ol betsy in the rain but thats not to say i wont run into rain out on a tour.i like idea 1 better .
the 350 in my 80 vette is getting tired and i would love to get the performance gm crate 502 motor to put in. i've seen some high-rise after marked hoods but they only add 1 3/4" extra clearance and i'm not sure if thats enough.
