What r u looking to do with it,just a weekend cruiser? or big cam, head work, headers etc..Mass air setups will work with changes better without having to reprogram the prom every time.Speed density setups if your making cam changes and heads etc.. need the prom to be worked with .NIce part about speed density is the air filter can go right on the end of the throttle body and you dont have to worry about the ducting and mass air flow sensor.I use a maf setup from a 87 trans am.If your just going to bolt it on and use your stock cam then speed density will probably work better for you.Others will chime in with there ideas also im sure, this is my oppinion.
well i bought one out of an 85 corvette but..............I have yet to go out to the garage and install it but ill get around to it sooner or later if only could get someone over to help me?
I haven't installed mine yet, but I converted a 1985 harness to work with a '86-89 computer. I'm going to copy Pat's MAF and C5 air bridge setup.
The one thing I am going to do differently is use a Prominator flash-based interface instead of a chip, that way I can mess around with tunig without having to burn my own chips. Of course, I don't have any of the system installed yet, so we'll see what actually happens once I start.
The engine is a rebuilt L-82, Edlebrock RPM heads, new COMP cam (6000 rpm), headers (1 3/4"). The car will be a weekend driver.
I like MAF setups a little better since they always tune themselves, but I had an '86 Lincoln with a speed density system that worked fine.
definately go with a mass air setup if you plan on doing cam changes. A 87 trans am or camaro setup will be your best bet. It has no VATS(anti theft) to worry about, and its a mass air setup. You can get a 3 wire hookup wiring harness from painless wiring for dirt cheap, i strongly reccomend going with them, it will save you tons of time and headache. I did the swap on a 78 chevy, feel free to pm with any questions, there are several tpi setups on this forum as well.
