Default Hooker Headers...An Easier Way?

I have a new set of Hooker Headers. The passenger side slide right in and bolted up. It says in the directions that the steering box and the clutch linkage must be removed to install the drivers side.

Please tell me that there is an easier way? Are there any tricks?

Thanks,
Chris

CLutch linkage must be removed, but it is easy - not a big deal. Steering stayed in on mine (1968

I was able to install my Hooker sidepipe header without removing the steering box but it is a tight fit and I did end up scratching the jet hot coating a little in the process.
Not sure about the clutch linkage (my car is an automatic), but I suspect it will probably have to come out.
Before you start you might consider applying several layers of masking tape (I used 2" wide blue painter's tape) to sections of the header that have a chance of getting scratched during the maneuvering to get it in place.

take off the two springs, undo the nut at the frame end and lift it out.
it just slided over a ball end that's mounted on the motor.

I have a 77 with Hooker Sidepipes, remove the clutch linkage as nicely described above, I had no issues with the steering box. While you have the linkage apart it's a good time to replace the plastic bushings and lube it up. Various places sell the parts or a kit.
