fuel injection...
has anyone here converted using something like camaro or firebird units?
i would be interested in hearing from people that have done this or have knowledge of such a thing...
thanx...

what are you doing about the control computer to manage the system?
what years and models fit (camaro? firebird?)
thanx guys!

Really any years willwork, maf setups will respond to chnages easier then speed density setups, but if your not making alot of changes, like cam etc.. then speed density will work.Im using the stock 87 t/a computer with a custom made chip.Theres afew guys that have done it here, marktd, mrvette ,timbo etc...

since moving to Florida here in '97, I put in a roller engine, truck block 4 bolt factory...ZZ9 cam, and 700 overdrive tranny, now gets about 22 on highway, and about 18 around town...close to 400 hp....running factory iron heads now, the Edel aluminum heads blew a gasket once, and so I returned to the iron....
the computer is a 1227730 junkyard ten bux variety, and so are all the connectors and sending units/sensors 3.1 engines use many similar/exact components....
I recommend doing your own wiring harness, assuming you can solder wires, rather than spending hundreds on a harness....
the speed density is easier for the intake plumbing, just use a K/N filter over the snout....

When I finally re-build my engine I plan on attempting it. It actually doesn't sound too terribly difficult if you don't let the formulas scare ya.
It is pretty simple..... be prepared to get into everything though if you are a perfectionist.
I used an aftermarket plenum, throttle body and runners, but basically it is a speed density unit that was running an ECU from a '90 vette when I installed. I have since upgraded the controller to a F.A.S.T. programmable unit. Biggest thing you need to consider is the fuel lines and the use of a high pressure fuel pump. I ran new lines which was a whole lot of fun
But seriously, not that bad.. I went a bit overboard and also got a serpentine system to free up some area in the front. also changed radiator, switched to electric fans, etc...I got my system from Ken at www.firstinjections.com
I went this route so I was not just buying a rebuildable unit from a wrecker or something. I also wanted to have all of the parts, etc ready and not be searching for anything during the install. I did buy the serp system from a wrecker, because I needed all of the correct brackets (from a '90)
Lots of info on the forum.. Budman78... patsnitrovette, etc... It was all helpfull when I did it..
Great mod as well!!! I am awaiting the new 5 speed from Keisler.. this should be my final mod!! Good Luck!!

If you're willing to do some reprogramming of the computer, the speed density system works just as well as the MAF, and the parts are cheaper. MAFs are fairly expensive items, and can be an intake impediment.
If you're willing to give up a bit of torque to gain a lot of top end, the LT-1 intake can be modified to work on standard-flow cooling systems.
thanx again!

thanx again!
how's my sign coming along?

a well tuned carb is good enough for me. I always know i can get it running as long as i have fuel pressure.
