I'm getting near the end of the mechanical stuff, so its time to think about the body & paint. This going to be a driver, but I want a nice looking car, who doesn't? Anyway does anyone know of a check list or a good web site that recommends what should be done? I was going to get to the interior last, is that a good idea? I know this is probably a big question. Any help I'd really appreciate. I'm not going ot be doing this myself, so I want to figure out as much as I can before I deal with the paint shop. Thanks.
if your paint isnt bad then do the interior, mine is ripped to shreds and my paint isnt bad so im concentrating on the interior. do what makes more of a difference to you. i personally like not being fried in the summer and frozen in the winter so im gonna fix up the inside real nice. just be prepared for the work for either project, cuz interior will take time and it will put your vette on downtime unless you can complete it on your days off. same for the outside.
The exterior is pretty rough so im tired of looking at it, I need new front & rear bumpers, they've almost completely crakced in the cold up here. I'm going to get fiberglass to replace the urethane. The cars got original paint on it but its got some deep scratches. I'm going to assume it should be completely stripped. I saw someone on here was getting estimates of $6400- 7200. Is that ball park to strip & paint the entire car?
I completely stripped my 68 of paint and removed all the lights, bumpers, trim, etc. in preparation for painting. I am going with factory color paint job, nothing exotic, and was quoted prices from $6,000 to as much as $12,000. It went into the paint shop last week and cost is expected to be $7,000. Be sure you ask what they are going to do for the price. Since yours needs to be stripped I would think it won't be cheap. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Good luck with your project.
Where are you guys going to get your paint work done. Are you having any custom painting done. I paint corporate jets for a living and do some painting on the side and have never charged anyone that much for a paint job. When I get a digital camera I will post pics of mine in process.
What kind of turn around time are these paint shops talking. Are they removing the doors and bumpers?

I just rec'd a bunch of quotes in the NW suburbs of Chicago over the past few days on my '78 Silver Anniversary (2 tone paint). They range from 6,000-8,600+. They are including removing the rear glass, doors, bumpers, etc... I was hoping for less than 5k for paint, but I think I'm screwed. Their turn around times are about 4-5 weeks once started. And of coarse they can't tell me when they can start, they all estimate about a month or so depending on how busy.
