Another Auto to 4 Speed conversion question
- I am using a 77 BW T10, has anyone hooked up the locking cable from the steering column?
-What about changing the neutral safety switch wiring to the "depressed clutch pedal" switch? Any thoughts on that harness?
-I read with interest in another thread recently, that it was suggested to install and adjust the shift linkage before installing the trans. My shifter bolts to the X member, and cannot be done out of the car. Am I missing something?
Comments are appreciated.
As far as the locking cable from the steering column and the neutral safety switch, most guys don't reconnect that stuff. On an automatic
there are two purple wires under the floor shift assembly. You will need to connect those two wires together to bypass the neutral safety switch. One is purple and one is purple with a while stripe. Neutral safety switch is less useful on a stick than an automatic. Most guys get in a stick shift car and check the shifter before they start the car to verify it's position. Plus many guys start their car by depressing the clutch first and then starting it. That's an even better idea. Neutral safety switch gizmos on stick shift cars was something Uncle Sammy came up with because people that never drove stick shift were getting in their cars and turning the key like it was an automatic. So the car would jump and hit whatever was behind or in front of it. Lawsuits and safety freaks forced the adoption of a neutral safety switch on stick shift.
The locking cable for the stering column is also something that most guys leave off. Just not worth the effort. If a thief wants the car, he'll just tow it away
