Does anyone have information regarding the Herb Adams VSE set up? I like the idea of going with a bigger sway bar using tie rod ends. However I can't seem to find a number to give these guys a call.
Be very careful when using Adam's bars. He uses bars with large diameter and short lever arms so the general rules of thumb about front and rear bar size we all use don't apply.
Several months ago I posted the sway bar formula (see suspension in the archives). When you run the math, you can successfully compare Adams' bars and VB's bars.
Generally speaking, don't install a large rear bar unless you have wide, sticky tires or you will be swapping ends in hard turns.

Was that a C3 post ? All I found was the C5 tables.
Adams had some very cool ideas. I liked his solution to the rear trailing arm bushings. I believe he sold out to moroso quite some time back. You might be able to find some of his stuff if you check with them. I actually still have one of his catalogs and performance booklets that covered about any car made at the time.

I agree, in fact fit the front roll bar first and assess the change then install the rear and assess it again. A lot of guys prefer to run no rear bar since its less twitchy and the breakaway is more progressive.
That sounds like a plan. I will check Moroso, maybe they still market Adams' stuff.
I will be in Edinburgh in June for a few weeks. How is your vette coming along. I am with ChevronTexaco, attempting to get a transfer overseas, somewhere. The wife moved back to the UK, we bought a house in Livingston. Edinburgh, or Corstorphine where we used to live is far too expensive. Plus I needed space. Still thinking about shipping the 71 LS-5. Presently fixing what I want to fix over here first. I don't guess there's anyone local there that can do much with old vettes?
I have a set of those Herb Adams Sway Bars, Front and Rear with Hiem Joints (no installation directions). They are extra stiff bars maybe 1 3/8" dia. front and 1 1/8" rear.
Make me an offer, they are heavy so shipping would be extra.
I think flynhi has hit the nail right on the head, particularly about rear sway bars.My 78' came with the FE7 suspension with a rear sway bar.Once I started racing in autocross,I discovered that it was necessary to remove the rear sway bar to get rid of the "twitchng" rear end. After that,my times improved, and handling was better. So the message is understanding the geometry of your setup in the first place.
