I installed a temp switch into the drivers side head so that the electric fan/relay I have would kick on automatically. All the parts work just fine except that I have to rev it so that the coolant hits the switch to trigger the fan. If you are driving the car this is not a problem, but at idle the fan will not come on unless I give it gas. I am assuming that it is an air buble causing the coolant to stay away from the switch, but how do I eliminate it?
I tested out the switch with a 12v battery and a pot of hot water on the stove before I installed it. Also if the switch was not closing the fan would never kick on, and if it was always closed it would always run.
I'm guessing you want me to run a wire from the fan directly to the battery? I tested the fan this way before I started the car up. Here is the diagram i used (single fan) to wire it (minus the AC and manual switches). Any other help would be greatly appreciated.
Sounds like air to me. To get the air out, take off the radiator cap (cold) and start the car. Make sure the radiator is full. As the motor warms up, the thermostat will open and air shoud go to the radiator, lowering the level. Add coolant as required. If you still have a problem, repeat the process with the front end elevated (park on a hill or use ramps). Joe
