Default Radiator removal 76

Not sure, first time trying to remove the radiator. I have to put new break lines in and I wanted to get the radiator boiled out anyway. I tried to remove the shroud and will not come out. The book is not very helpful. Do you unbolt the radiator and lift up and bring the shroud with it? Any tips on removal would be appreciated. I have a 76 L48, no air, with powersteering.

You're not going to want to hear this, but at least you do not have A/C, but the best way to do a '73-'82 radiator is removing it as a package deal, meaning "Core support/radiator/shroud". I've done three of them and it's the best way to do it to NOT cut the shroud. The core support has two larger bolts along the bottom front edge and three bolts going down each side. Also, removing the hood is also a good idea.

on a 77 this is how you do it....disconnect shroud and let it lay against water pump.....pull the radiator out from between the core support and shroud and then move shroud forward and pull it up...this is it going in

I and a buddy just replaced my radiator this weekend. I have a 75 auto / AC. You're going to have to drag the wife out there to help you with some parts of this. We did it without removing the radiator support (though I'll have to go back and replace it because it was rusted through - check this before you start!).
- Remove the bolts on the shroud extension
- remove the fan / fan clutch, and pull out the shroud extension
- remove all of the bolts from the shroud, but leave the shroud in place
- remove the hoses, bolts, and retaining clips holding the radiator
- in the radiator support, there are six bolts holding it in - three on each side. Remove the top two bolts on each side (four in total) and loosen the bottom bolt on each side. Push the support as far forward as possible...in my case up to the headlight actuators. Now you can remove the radiator, and the shroud.

Reverse the process on the installation. The upper control arms are going to be the problem with getting the shroud back in. We actually installed the radiator and then put the shroud in without cutting the shroud (though it crossed our minds) and without damaging the radiator. But it takes perserverence. I won't do this again - next time I'll spend the $400 on Spal fans and be done with it. One tip on the installation: you'll want to put the shroud back in after the radiator is in place. It will be a tight fit even with the rad support tilted forward. We found it was easier to tuck the passenger side of the shroud in first (because that's where you'll have the least amount of room) and then drop the driver side part of it in place. Took a little bit of dexterity, but it worked.
