When installing the lower ball joint on to the passenger side A-arm does the bolt with the elongated head go on the side shown or is it the opposite side? Thanks.
Believe there is a corresponding stop on the spindle if I remember correctly, think it was toward the rear.
It should be toward the rear of the car. It actually does not matter b/c the ear on the opposite side of how you have it now will hit first. The bolt kits that are supplied w/these ball joints are a universal bolt kit. The rivits never hit anything and neither will these bolts. You'll be just fine if you leave it that way.
I have to disagree. The stop bolt goes to the front (and contacts the spindle when turned full-lock). The welded "pointer" looking thing is facing rear. That contacts the spindle when it is turned toward the rear.
Or...are we talking about the same thing?

But that won't hit anything if it's up front. The front assemble hooks up to the tie rod ends which are behind the center of the tire. I don't have a good pic to show you. If it's up front the only thing that close is the sway bar end link.
OK I took a pic. This is the drivers side(left side) wheels turned all the way in both directions. Like I said it doesn't really matter b/c it's not going to hit either way but most of the time they are toward the rear.
I was referencing instructions I received from VB&P and the AIM when rebuilding my front-end (last week). Both indicated the steering stop bolt be placed in the forward facing bolt hole.
However, you are correct in that there is too much other stuff in the way for it to be effective.
