Currently own a 79 Vet and having problems getting the wipers to turn off. I've replaced the switch with no luck in turning off. I've spoke to a few people and they've said that it is the wiper motor and/or the wiper gasket/seal that is worn out (can be turned around to fix the problem). Not sure if any of that is correct but don't want to start replacing items that don't need to be. I'm a wannabe mechanic on weekends etc but just can't figure this one out. I believe it could be the worn gasket but not sure about turning it around to fix the problem. Not sure if that could cause more problems. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm having trouble getting the wipers to turn on in a '78. The motor gets power all the time (confirmed with a test light) regardless of the position of the switch. However, there is no power coming from the harness with 3 wires (that goes to the relay in the center console). Is that normal?
I just bought the car, and the wipers haven't worked since I've owned it. The other day I was driving with the wiper switch in one of the on positions and when I came to a stop the wipers went through about 3-4 cycles before they died, and that's as much as I've seen them work.
Pink wire in engine bay is supposed to be 'key on' only. If that wire is constant on, than someone has been in there messing around before you. I'd still look into a bad relay tho. Thats my .02
