I'm replacing my radiator support and, after struggling with the A/C condensor , I started wondering if the condensor blocks a significant amount of airflow from the radiator.
I don't use my A/C (belt is removed). Should I remove the condensor and will I notice a significant drop in engine temp?
On the highway when I use the a/c, I have about a 10F coolant temperature rise--which tells me quite a bit of the airflow the radiator gets is coming from the condenser coil. So, yes, I think you'd pick up a significant amout of increased air flow with it removed. However, if you're having heating issues without the a/c on, I'd look to find what's causing it first.
isn't getting the condenser out a pain im replaceing my core support too should be here tommrow
I didn't remove the condensor, just left it hanging while I swapped the rad support.
After removing the upper bolts, there's two lower bolts that hold in the condensor. I loosened those then removed the rad support.
Getting everything back together was the hard part. (I do not have a shroud installed...God have mercy on those of you who do).
I first slipped two bolts w/nuts through the top of the condensor into the rad support to align it. Then I replaced the bottom bolts. Wiggle & rubber-mallet the rad support into place (helps to have two people, but I only had me). Found it easier to maneuver with the bottom rad supports (to frame) removed. Replaced side bolts (3 per side, starting at bottom and working up), then replace bottom rad supports.
Have fun!

I've never used the A/C, so I don't know if it would increase the temp while driving.
Around town (no A/C, stock rad, elec. fan, no shroud), I'm running around 190 ~ 200. 180 would be nice. If I could get to that temp without installing an aluminum radiator, I'd be happy.
