Still have the stock 79 shifter. Will I be able to use it and just lose direct access to first gear? Don't have 200 bones to drop on a quicksilver shifter that I want.
BTO (Bowtie Overdrives) sells a replacement indexing plate and shift indicator for around $100 or less. You shouldn't need to spend $200 on a Quicksilver.

The shift patten for the 200 is setup different thn the stock shifter. The full travel distance is the same, where they ar different is P-R-N-4 is closer together to make room for 3-2-1. Because of the shorter distance it makes it possible to have the detent on the shifter to put the trans in an in-between gears state, not a good thing. You could grind the stock detent to make it work but it would be a lot safer to get the new detent from BTO. To install it is simple.
