Default ROD vs TKO

I had a RG 5-spd before the rebuild with 3.08 gears in the rear that really made the 77 respond like a sports car. For the rebuild, we bought a RG 6-spd using the same rear end for the OD. My only complaint was the Hurst 5-speed linkage; we could never get it adjusted properly. I have no experience with the Long 5-speed, but their 6-speed is reported to shift like butter once properly broken in. However, we changed the whole suspension and the tire/wheel size on the rebuild and needed the gear ratios offered with the T-56.

I have driven all the subject transmissions at one time or another. Each has its application. For your gear ratio arguments, you must also factor in wheel and tire size along with the rear end ratio. After doing numerous spreadsheets, there is something out there for practically every engine HP/Torque combination. Lots of homework up front usually results in many more pro's than con's.

I would contact these people first www.ClassicChevy5Speed.com and speak to Jeff or Scott and see what they can offer you at a good price also. Friendly people that are honest.

I thought the ROD needed a lot of hacking to make it fit. BTW - external rails is less things to go wrong in the trans. I vote for a 3.08 rear end gear & a richmond street 5 speed.

Default TKO and T-56

My 2 cents -

We offer complete bolt in conversion kits for your Vette using a TKO 500 or 600close-ratio with re-engineered case and tailhousing. The kit includes every last nut and bolt to do the job, and you do not modify your car IN ANYWAY the shifter even comes up in the stock console location. The TKO's are very strong, bolt up to your bellhousing and offer 3 choices of gear ratios. Regardless of what rearend you're running now, there is a TKO that is geared to work with it.

We also have a T-56 6 speed kit for your Vette which comes with all the needed pieces, but it does require a little cutting since the T-56 is a larger tranny. A cutting template is included. You have 2 gear set choices, 2 power ratings and excellent shift quality.

Let me know if we can help you.
