When I read this, the first words that popped into my head were "Oh No!!!" I knew you had spent all the time to make it fit before and watched your progress. Hopefully it will not be too bad. Keep us posted on your progress Len.
Thats a great idea George, hadn't thought of that one.
If it works, I may try the same. I have a small block and the air chamber is not centered over my air cleaner on the L88 hood currently installed. Not sure if mine is due to it being for a big block or an incorrect reposition. I'll be watching this thread for your progress Jughead.
A hammer and putty knife is how I removed the stock GM blockoff from the '67 BB hood. I also ground the back out of the chrome insert to keep the look but make it truly functional for reducing intake air temp. Only requires some minor cleanup of the area under the hood prior to repainting it.
Is it possible to use an off-set air cleaner bottom to reposition your seal area? Summit offers one.
if its bonded on there good, i doubt it will come off clean. Plus you got to worry about damaging the underside of the hood, and those hoods aren't very thick. I figure you'll end up cutting it out, and buying a new air box for positioning.
I know this is a late post, but I'd recommend a sharp chisel, not a putty knife. The chisel does less damage to the seam and hood. I just remove my old one that was trashed and replaced it with a new one. Sharp chisels are better.
Len - wood chisels - not cold chisels.
Buy a set of cheapos at Home Depot.
You could also put a sharp edge on a putty knife.
I would go slowly. The bonded seams chisel apart cleanly, but you
used the polyester resin to glue it on. I'm not sure how that will
behave.
Also, if you know the proper way to hold a wood chisel ... set the
cutting edge so the bevel does not dig into the hood. A sharp chisel
can cut through the skin pretty easily.
