My car is falling flat on its face at WOT at the top of 1st and 2nd (4500+ RPM). I do not know if you would describe it as a BOG, but is just croaks. It feels like it is running out of gas. As soon as you let up, it sort of catches up and it goes again.
Lars rebuilt the Qjet and set it up properly on his test car last year, so I feel like the carb is OK (less than 1000 miles ago).
After it happened 3-4 times today during a cruise, I did inspect the fuel lines and the rubber line that connects the hard line from the fuel tank to the bottom of the fuel pump had a tighter bend in it than it probably should, causing the rubber line to flatten slightly. I think that this came from me moving things around a bit when I installed the new radiator a few months ago. Incidentally, this is about when I noticed this bogging problem.
I had the car home and parked already, so I have not been able to test it yet after repositioning the lines and eliminating the bend.
Could this be the cause?
If not, any other ideas? Car is running great otherwise.
Make sure it is the correct "S" line and not just a piece of hose put in its place. That would cause what you describe.
Had this happen on a car that had regualr straight fuel line plumbed there instead of the "S" hoses. Ran good around town but choked under full load because the bowl was draining faster then the hose would allow fuel in. If you're not sure just look at the fuel pump hoses it should be clear.
The "S" hose is a prime source along with the fuel filter in the carb or where ever you have it located. Another one not to overlook is the fuel sock on the pickup in the gas tank. Over the years it sucks all the crap in the tank and does not let fuel flow freely at WOT. Take a look with a flashlight. They are normally white when new - not black. If the case, they can be cleaned. Tape an old toothbrush to a wooden dowel and run it against the sock lightly and see what comes off. Might help.
I have ordered an S fuel line (local stores do not have them).
I will change the fuel line to eliminate the possibility, but I do not think it is the fuel line, however. I have repositioned the hard lines so that the existing rubber fuel line has plenty of slack and is not pinched at all. The car is still falling on its face at WOT throttle.
Even though there is no water in the fuel, this is what it feels like. It just dies.
Could the rubber fuel line be collapsing at WOT or do I have an electrical problem?
Is the rubber fuel line typically hard like a rubber brake line or soft like a radiator hose?
