Hey folks,
I put new heads on my 80 Camaro a while back, tightened everything down and stuff, but never started the car. Now I've pulled the heads off and want to put different ones on (since I'm now selling the car) Can I reuse the headgaskets that were on there? Remember, engine never been turned over, gaskets still look new. They're just the regular Blue Fel-pro gaskets, and they were kinda pricey ($15/ea) so I'd rather not waste them if I don't have to. Thanks in advance folks...
Replace the gaskets and raise the price of the car the 30 bucks.Should something go wrong when you sell the car your conscience and good name will be intact. My .02
Even though the engine hasn't been run the sealing ring around the cylinder has been crushed when you torqued them the first time.
In a best case scenario they MIGHT last a little while if reused.
Sounds good, thanks folks... I kinda thought they'd be no good, because I know their thickness is measured when compressed. Oh well, off to the parts store I go...
I have to go against the popular opinion on this...Once I torqued down the heads, a few days later, for some reason I took the heads off...re-used the gaskets, still have the gaskets on the 68 without any problems....i was on teh cheap, did not want to waste 100 bucks on another set....appears the BB Gods were and still are smiling at me.
