Well the saga continues, and I hope someone can shed some light. Just after putting my carb back together I was leaking fuel from the accelerator pump shaft hole at a rate of about 1 ounce per 7 seconds. I took the top off the carb and found that the float was at 10/32 instead of 15/32 as specified. Do you think that is the only cause of my excessive fuel leak although I know I need to adjust the fload or could there be another reason?
Thanks and hopefully I can finally resolve the carb problem and go on to the other 2 problems to get this car drivable.

Fuel leaking out the accel pump hole is due to the fuel level in the bowl being too high. This can be caused by several issues:
1. Incorrect float level. You should set yours to .420"
2. Fuel-logged float or incorrect float. Make sure you have a brand new NAPA/Echlin NitroFill float - not a brass float.
3. Float spring hinge pin has inadequate pre-load. The spring pin should be "sprung" so that the top portion of the pin hits the airhorn. If not, the pin will allow the float to rise.
4. Needle clip incorrectly installed in float arm. The clip for the needle should NOT be installed through the little hole in the float or the needle can jam.
5. Dirt/contamination in the needle/seat area.
Thanks alot for the info Lars, I'm gonna take go through all 5 steps tomorrow and hopefully it will take care of the fuel leak. My original problem was a severe vaccum leak, but I believe that is solved. I have been frustrated with trial and error on this carb for months... Wish me luck everyone.
lars, other things have come up and I haven't had a chance to look into the car situation. I've decided to get a carb rebuild kit and start all over again. I got a quote on a "Blue Streak Jiffy Kit" for $31.99 and I'm picking it up tomorrow. The carb has been in degreaser for about five days now so I obviously didn't get the right kind because it shouldn't take that long. I'll keep you posted.
