When I get home to my vett in 11day (man I am excited) I have a project I need to get started on
When I was last home I decided to try to fix my exhaust leak that I had coming from a blown gasket between the block and the manifold....... I mean no biggy not a hard job at all
But once I removed the compressor and its bracket I saw a strange thing happen. One of the center bolts holding the bracket to the manifold and the manifold to the block just dropped out. It seems that the only thing that was holding this bolt in was the fact that the weight of the compressor kind of had it pinned in.
So now on that side I am proud to say I have a nice new gasket but no center bolt
Now when I get home I hope to fix this problem....... am I in for some fun????
O nice This could be good times....... and when doing this would you think it best to pull the maniflod completely off or do you thing i can get away with doing it throught the manifold?
If you have to drill the broken bolt out, the manifold should help you center your bit. I'd try to find(or machine) a tube that fits snugly in the manifold whose inside diameter matches your extracting drill bit.
The other approach is to use a series of sleeves as descibed above to get out or close to the the tap diameter of the bolt, and pull the threads out with a pick and then retap.
