In trying to install my tail lights into a flex fit rear bumper for a 1975 it seems that the recesses are to shallow. In the old bumper the entire stainless trim on the light was hidden in the bumper recess. On the replacement bumper the light trim is exposed. Is it common that the stops for the light have to be ground so that the light depths are correct. Additionally does anyone have a good technique for drilling the holes for installing the emblem letters on a 75.
let me know how you get the nuts on the middle letters that are under the metal triangle behind the bumper.then i'll attach mine, i guess this should have been done first, but i didn't want to paint around them.
I put a True Flex rear bumper on a 75 a few weeks back. When I first put the taillights in, I noticed they stuck out further that on the stock rear. The problem that I was able to find, is that that there is a long white plastic post (used for alignment I think) on the back side of the taillight that was hitting the fiberglass bumper in the recess area. I drilled through the recess area for the posts on each and it then fit just like the original.
Regarding getting the letters on the back bumper, there are 3 bolts that hold on the metal triangular piece to the aluminum bumper support. You will be able to see one by looking at the back side of the triangular piece. The other 2 bolts are inside the open ends of the triangular piece. It is a tight squeeze but I was able to access the bolts with a small 1/4 rachet and socket. Once the 3 bolts are removed you can either remove the triangular piece to install the nuts on the back of the letters or just slide to one side to access them.
