Jumpy spedo Needle

i just put a mechanical speedo needle in my 75' with a brand new Lokar cable. When i am driving the cable bounces +-10 mph (the gauge is 0 to 160 like the stock, small incraments)

Can this be fixed?

Check the speedometer driven gear for worn or missing teeth.

i have had the trans rebuilt recently. would that gear have been checked then.

How do i get to the gear? it is a TH400

The speedometer driven gear slips inside a fitting that connects the speedo cable to the trans housing. I have a 4-spd, but I would guess it's the same with auto trans. You might ask the people who rebuilt your trans if they checked that gear. It's a cheap plastic part.

I recently changed the speedometer, the cable and sleeve and the driven gear in my 77. Your driven gear can be removed same as in a 4 speed car. I don't think that is your problem. It sounds more cable related - either kinked during installation or not lubricated.
