tranny leaks like a siv, when i disconnected the speedo cable tranny fluid poured out of the cable. what's the worse case scenario and can i fix it myself?
How much are you opposed to pulling it out? I did the complete rebuild and now it doesn't leak a drop (used to leak like a bucket with no bottom) If you don't want to get that into it you can just get a seal kit and do the easily accessible things. To do the front though, you must remove, and that is a very common leak-point. Lastly you may already know this but snug the pan in moderation! Like engine oils pan gaskets, cork trans pan gaskets love to squish out and leak if you torque them down too hard.
Oh lastly, if you can't get some of the seals in a basic kit and don't want to rebuild, just pull out the potential leakers, and take them to the hardware store. Speedo gear seal, accumulator, governor cover and possibly others are simple O-rings. Soak EVERYTHING in clean ATF. Do not remove the pump (big plate on the front behind the torque convertor) unless you are going to rebuild. The gasket behind it cannot be reused... ask me how I know.
Good luck
Chris

I would start with a new speedometer gear adapter (sometimes called a bullet) and a new driven gear. The bullet wears over time. That may help with your leak. Available at any GM dealer.
