Default 69 L-46 Fuel Filter problem

Prior to purchasing my car, bubba decided to replace the gas tank. Unfortunately, the replacement tank did not have a proper fuel return line and they just left the old line in place.

When I started my engine resto, I purchased all original items, including the fuel filter and correct fuel lines. When it came time to install, we discovered that the old return fuel line (on the frame) had been capped off. After a few minutes of poking around, it was obvious why.

At the time, we decided to use the correct filter and rubber return lines and we capped off the return line down at the frame. This worked OK for several years. After starting the car the other day, the capped line sprang a leak. Fuel everywhere. OK, time to fix the problem.

Until I install a correct tank (maybe next winter), I need to come up with a better system under the hood. Since I have installed all correct lines to the carb for the L-46 setup, I don't really want to replace them if I don't have too.

I am wondering if a 69 big block set up that uses a Quadrajet (427-390) will work for me. There was no return line as I recall, was there? If not, can anyone suggest a replacement filter that will?

The L-36 390hp did use a fuel return line. The L68 and L71 tripower cars did not use a fuel return line, and did not use an external fuel filter. I think you need to install the correct tank if you plan to use the GF-432 filter with the return line.
