Oh well, looks like I'l either try to find a "generic" replacement (from a 68 truck?) or try to fabricate something. If that doesn't work, I'll keep turning it off manually til I bite the bullet and spend the bucks.

If you go to motormite.com they show a replacement # 49300 or 49302. I dont know if its correct or not. they also show a picture of a 49301 that looks correct but says its for a Ford. I would go to either an Autozone, Advance or Pep boys and see if they have them. Cheap enough.

Guess I better clarify, it was FOR my 68 truck. But my point was that local parts store had one. Some parts like that were "interchangeable" with other GM vehicles, so I suppose anything it possible. Then there is also salvage yards. Probably a part that would still survive a Vette that was "totaled" there is a Vette salvage yard in St Charles Missouri (just outside Saint Louis) with a website. they'd probably have one.
Yeah, I realize that regarding the truck. I think I'll take the old one with me to Autozone and see if I can find a similar one. I really dont care about numbers matching as long as it's drivable and reliable.
As for junk yards, I'm guessing I would have to buy the whole column. At least that's been my experience.

Who would have thought a part that should be $25 was going to be such a problem and could end up costing over $100 (if I could find it).
Oh well, just adding that to my 68 only parts. Ok it's on a 67, but that doesn't make it any easier to find.

Hey Gary, I checked the autozone and other major parts houses and all had part # 's for a 68' but none actually fit once they arrived. 69 and up! Everyone's literature and websites said they carry it but noone ever had it. When I tried converting to other switches they were all backwards when it came time to screw the blinker arm in or the hazard button...which didn't work anyway. I went with a tilt/tele from a later year. And I still love my 68'!
People do not seem to realize how difficult this part is to find. I wish to bump this up to the top until a source is located. I need a spare. IM if if you wish.
For $150, I could probably buy a used 69 tilt/tele column that uses the $29 switch.
For $300, I could even buy a new polished aluminum column from Summit!
