Default Dynomax Cerama-Coat Headers??

Just wondering if these headers are ok for my 78.

I am considering headers and new exhaust for the baby but would appreciate some insight about these headers or any that are better.

# 289-86008 Cerama-Coat Headers,Corvette 1963-82, 283-400ci

They are advertised on Jeg's, they have to be good....

I bought them for my 80 from jegs, they look good and are equal length. The engine is still on the stand so I can't comment on performance.

Default Another 2 cents worth

I guess my main concerns would be:
1. Ground clearance
2. Proximity to the starter
3. Steering gear clearance

I am using the Headman coated headers. They fit very nicely. I don't have too much of a problem with ground clearance, my front spoiler is still lower. There is plenty of room around the steering box and the starter. Fit around the idler arm is tight, but it does fit.
I have run these in 115+ degree heat in Phoenix and have not had a problem with my stock starter turning over my 10:1 compression motor, so I don't think there is a "heat soak" problem at all.

We (the CCC - the Colorado Corvette Crazies - The Ultimate Corvette Tuning and Beer Drinking Fraternity) have 2 cars out here with those headers. They fit well, look good, and quality seems to be good. No problem with clearance around the starter or at the steering box. Ground clearance is as good at it can be with headers: the headers tuck up slightly above the floorboard level just forward of where the firewall curves under, so you have to have a slight jog/angle to the headpipe to accommodate how high up the headers actually are. This works well. The headers are easy to install: they slip right up from the bottom and bolt in place without any need to raise the engine or do anything difficult. The only minor issue is that the header flange on the driver's side is not slit for the dipstick tube, so you have to either get the header lifted up and over the top of the tube (often not possible) or you have to pull out the tube. If I were you, I'd just slit the flange (did it on mine - works great).

I have Dynomax silver ceramic headmans on my 71... Fit great, but always a tight squeeze on the install of these vettes! I just pulled my dipstick tube and put them on!

I have them on my 406, they are a little small as they hang into my exhaust ports, but they seem to work.

No problems at all in fitting them to my '81. I haven't got the aircon system fitted so don't know about any issues fitting the compressor. I also changed the dipstick (p.side) to a chrome job at the same time so don't know if the stock one causes any ****les when fitting.
2 recommendations:
1. Use copper gaskets. I bought some stainless allen head screws & spring washers to use as the Header bolts. With the copper head gaskets I've had no problems in 2 years, just make sure you snug up the bolts after it's been run up a couple of times. The supplied collector gaskets are still in place & not leaking, so they're OK. Just be careful not to clamp them up too tight as they look like they might split if you do.
2. If you've got the stock starter then it'd be good insurance to fit a heat shild of some sort. Mine got fried shortly after fitting the Headers. It may have been on the way out anyway, but it worked fine prior to fitting the Headers so it's likely that it was cooked by them.
Don't forget to check the mixture after fitting them.
Apart from that, the Headers are ace

I've got them on my 74. My only recommendation would be to throw the gaskets supplied with the headers straight in the garbage. Go buy a set of quality ones...you'll be glad you did.

Default Thanks again!!

I really appreciate the value of your experience.

Z-man I would imagine that they are 1-5/8" primary tubes like most other small block headers. I looked at Jeg's site and they didn't specify a tube diameter.

Thanks again guys.

The ones on mine have 1 5/8" primaries & 3" collectors. Reducers take it down to 2 1/2" for the pipes.
They made no difference in normal street running (that I could tell) but higher up the rev range the car no longer feels strangled. Additionally, I'm convinced that the engine bat is a lot cooler that it used to be & interiror heat isn't a problem. I rate them
