Default Stopping Headlight Vibration/Flicker

When my headlights were on I noticed that the reflecting street signs would flicker--due to vibration in the headlight housings. This problem got worse as the road got rougher.

So, I developed a fix for this that takes just a few minutes to install.

Also, one of my headlight bearings is very bad, and this fix corrected that looseness too. Which was nice, since changing a headlight bearing is one of those Corvette jobs that you do not want to have to do if at all possible.

The fix:

1. Obtain (any hardware store) 4 toilet tank bolt seals and cut a 1/8 diameter notch in at as shown:

2. Raise headlights. Take the headlight bell housing off.

3. On each side of the headlight housing there is a pivot. You will see a collar with a set screw on each one too.

4. Loosen the collar enough to snap in the cut seal--it will snug into place. Now, while applying pressure to the collar, pressing it firmly against the seal, tighten the set screw.

5. Repeat on pivots--total of four. Replace bell housing.

You will now notice that your headlight housings are firm and solid--almost zero wiggle. This fix does not cause headlights to raise or lower any differently.

I am amazed on how well it works. Those seals are tough; they're made in layers just like a miniture rag joint. I wish I had done this years ago!

Thanks for the tip

1 of my bearings is shot on the left side. I bought a replacement bearing 5 years ago, but haven't wanted to tackle that job yet.

I applaud your ingenuity but if I found something like that on my car I think I’d call it Bubba. Like it’s said above this should be a temp fix until you have the time and money to do it right. I just can't bring myself to do stuff like that as a permanent fix. I have Bubba'ed some stuff on my car just so I can keep the system working but eventually I get the proper parts and fix it right. Sorry, no offense intended.

I have the new headlight bearings all right, but after looking it all over, I'm going to wait to change them next time I have to pull the radiator and condenser coil. Do it all at once sort of deal. These seals are definitely a temp fix if you have a bad bearing.

However, this does stop all vibration in the headlights--which you get some of even when the bearings are new.

I think the flicker is cool. Makes up for the lack of light our headlights throw off.

Nice fix. Sure is better than going to the parts store and asking the person behind the counter for headlight bearings.
Then have to listen to the person chuckle and say they only sell them in a kit with muffler bearings.
