Default Alignment!!!

Thanks to my Forum buddy Steve Krech aka Steve's74 I now track straight as an arrow after my rear suspension rebuild. I actually had it really close with the garage alignment. Steve set me up with a company called CC Rosen and Sons in Mt. Crawford, VA. They just purchased a state of the art Hunter laser alignment system. That is a really neat piece of equipment. Thanks to Tim Mumbauer and Jerry Rose the old Vette rides great. Jerry spent about 2 hours getting it perfect. It feels really good not to have to worry about my alignment anymore. I've been driving it for a few months with the garage setup but I like the piece-of-mind a professional alignment gives me. If any members live near Mt. Crawford I highly recommend CC’s.
Thanks Steve (get well soon), Tim and especially Jerry

Man, you're lucky. My last trip to an alignment shop the "tech" had a hard time setting rear toe. For some reason, when he adjusted the strut rods it hardly made any difference.

Well, despite the rain coming down and me coming down with the flu Thursday afternoon (spent Friday with a 101 degree fever), we did get John's '71 going straight. As John said, the fact is that after using Dan's (Van Steel) procedure for "garage setting" his alignment, he wasn't too far off. C C Rosen is an old, old tire store that is just off I-81 in a small town called Mt Crawford in western Virginia. A former employee of mine (Tim) runs the mechanical shop. After John said he was unable to find someone who was willing to make his Vette go straight, I talked with Tim. As John said, they had recently purchased an advanced Hunter laser system. Of course, no machine is of any value without the proper knowledge to use it and the willingness to look at our "old" cars. And Jerry has seen a few C3s in the past, so we were allright in that area. I also mentioned that most of the parts were new, not rusted, so they wouldn't have a problem with getting things apart to do the alignment. Without a doubt, Jerry's willingness to do the job right, rather than simply rush through it and get the next car in, made a huge difference.

Sometimes these old time "country shops" are willing to have the patience that newer, rush it in, rush it out shops aren't willing to have. This is the case with C C Rosen. C C himself still shows up on a regular basis, and as a matter of fact was there yesterday himself. I've lost track of how old he is (he's been around a "long, long time"!), but John got to meet C C and listen to him expound on how he needed to "have more children"! John, just so you know, this is a common theme for C C; he wasn't picking on just you! In any event, for those of us in western Viriginia, this is a place that can get the job done right. Thanks again to both Tim and Jerry for being a first class place.

Bob, normally I'd invite you over if you were coming to JMU or going to be in the area. Unfortunately, I can assure you that you don't want what I have. So I'll leave the door open that the next time you're in town, or if your son needs to see a serious "work in progress" Vette, either of you can knock on my door. I'd be glad to offer some hospitality.

Now, if you don't mind, I'm taking my flu and heading back to bed.....

Steve

Thanks again Steve for your help and I hope you are feeling better. I know CC was just busting my chops. I told my wife about it and she laughed. The people at CC's are a really good bunch. I did tell my wife about the tires also. She didn't have a problem with it. I how have 255 60 R15's Eagle GT2's at all 4 corners!

John had the ability to be there, but my '74 is sitting on jackstands with the entire rear suspension and much of the front out from under it. Then, of course, there was this flu thing that has me down..... I actually feel pretty decent this morning. I don't know about a cruise-in, but they hold the Apple Blossom festival and parade every year up there. It's a pretty big thing. Sorry I missed you. Maybe you can stop by next fall when you bring her back down. I hope her first year went well.
