Well some how today I managed to break the hood release cable. When I pulled on the release handle it pulled completley out. Attached to it was a long piece of wire.
I managed to get the hood open but how big a deal is it to install a new cable? I see them list on the Mid America website and will order one tomorrow. Does anyone have a write up on this install?
It has been quite awhile since doing mine, so memory is fuzzy, but this is what I remember. The two bolts holding the bracket to the birdcage were too difficult to access with the dash in place. Leaving the mounting bracket in place, I removed the broken T-handle with cable and installed same from new part. The fuzzy part is how the T-handle and cable is freed from the bracket. Anyhoo, hope this helps.
The AIM shows exactly how it's done, including the stop on the latch end of the cable. I run two stops on my cable in the hopes the extra one serves as insurance.

What is the AIM? I have the handle with metal wire threaded back through but can't find the cable stop. I've ordered a new handle/wire so that I will have some extra length of wire to play with. I believe that it comes with a cable stop.
The thing I'm not real clear on is how the cable stop attaches.

The AIM is an "Assembly Instruction Manual". It's the same book factory line workers used to assemble your car. I consider it the Corvette Bible. Every system, every nut and bolt is shown.
The cable stop looks like a tiny football/baseball, with a hole through the center and a set screw on the side. Slide the cable throught the hole...tighten the screw!

I'm on pg 247 of the AIM (Willcox ed.) and it shows the stop at the latch end as "Bend wire after arm." Is this what you're referring to? If so, can you help me understand how to create a second stop? Or is there another view I'm missing? Paper version has it as UPC 11-13 A7. Thanks.
All they were talking about (13 years ago) was adding a second collar on the wire after the first one, just in case it slipped. Bending the wire after the collar is another "second chance" that is to help prevent the collar from slipping.
I tapped the hole through and added a grub screw to the other side to tighten against on mine

I dropped a coathanger through the hole, and put a piece of hose over the end next to the kick panel, bent the end of the steel over to catch the hose end.....looped through the latch nice and secure.....
I got a replacement from Paragon and it didn't come with anything on the latch end ... just the handle/bracket assembly, wire housing and a bare wire to stick through the hole on the latch. Replacement of the handle/bracket was easy as was fishing the wire and housing through the grommet in the firewall. But I didn't want to crank on the wire and bend it back on itself in fear of snapping it. I'll have to look for a collar to lock the wire in place as well as reach out to Paragon and see if there's something that was missing.
