Is there any way to calibrate my tachometer on my 81?
When I had my emissions checked this year, the computer at the testing station did not match my dash tach. I'm kinda curious which one was right, since I'm currently trying to work on my timing. (an accurate tach would be handy).
Well I would tend to believe the emission station machine over your dashboard tach. I would think they have to be calibrated regularly vs probably never for your cars tach.
You could probably use an dwell/tach to compare or just use an aftermarket Autometer or similar tach to do the same. Now as far as calibrating your tach, someone else will have to chime in here to assist w/that.
Not sure how to calibrate it but I have an aftermarket tach in my car and at idle it reads about 150-200 RPM higher than stock. Maybe the answer is to get an aftermarket tach, may be cheaper than calibrating your stock tach.
