Default Small Block vs. Big Block Weight Diffrerence

Unable to find accurate data on this. Can someone tell me the approx weight difference between a stock 350 with cast iron heads vs. a 454 with aluminum heads?

With aluminum heads, about 100 lbs plus or minus 20 lbs depending on other items (aluminum intake, water pump, etc.).

Thanks Steve. I'm planning to swap out the 350 with a GM 454 crate with aluminum heads and am trying to figure out what springs to use. Is 100 +/- 20 lbs a significant enough increase to need new springs?

What springs are you running now? They might be relatively similiar in weight if compared to an all iron 350 with original accessories and original junk sitting in the engine bay that you should be ripping out.

That's what I was thinking. To my knowledge the springs that are in their now are stock for a SB. My front end's getting rebuilt right now, and I won't be ready for the engine swap for some time. I suppose I can see how it sits once the new motor is in. I'm looking forward to cleaning out the engine bay, getting rid of the aftermarket A/C, and replacing some of the old ancillary junk with new lightweight junk.

This is a pretty decent site for Big Blocks/C3's: Diabolicalperformance.com/c3bigblock.html

It includes the weight comparison you're seeking.

Did the same swap... Iron 350 and copper rad to 502 BBC and Alloy rad, Alloy heads, alloy waterpump, alloy pulleys, alloy intake, and alloy PS pump. Front sets about 3/4 inch higher

My front sits at the same height with stock SB springs. Aluminum heads, radiator and intake. No pump driven fan either.
