Default Rear window water leak

I threw a quick wash on the vette tonight after a few hundred hard miles and lotsa bug splats. After the bathe, I leaned into the rear compartment and put my hand on a wet carpet. The L\R corner was pretty wet and now I realize what disolved my old carpeting. The new Al Knoch carpet is down and I don't want to ruin it if I get stuck in a prolonged rainstorm. I noticed water collects under the lower moulding after the wash because I press down and it runs out. Whats the most effective method to seal the rear glass? Is it difficult removing the black trim moulding without damage? Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem on my 78. Don't try and take a short cut like I did. I removed the trim and ran silicon around the glass. It worked for a while but within a month the leaks were back, it did not hold up to the vibration and normal body flex. I had a glass company come out to my home. They easily removed the window(since the original sealant crumbled). Resealed with the professional high quality stuff and has been perfect ever since it was done 2 years ago. It was explained to me that the original sealant does not hold up to UV, drys out and turns to powder. Once the glass was out I could see why silicon on the outside would never do the job due to the design/angle of the mounting surface. The charged me around $180 I recall.
