I have headers and straight pipes/no cats and Lars is tuning the engine in August.
OK. On a more serious note, remember that's 290 gross HP. No accessories, no nothing. Absolute best case scenario. It's the way they tested cars until '72 or thereabouts. So the best you can do is to get the carb & ignition curves as optimal as possible in order to achieve as close to 290 HP as you can. Other than that, you'd have to modify the engine to exceed this amount.
Just round the number upward slightly. Tell folks you have 300 HP. We won't tell anyone
#1 Remove the mechanical fan and replace it with twin electric.
#2 Buy the smaller pulley for the damper, but at the same time install a higher amp alternator and high volume aluminum water pump
I'm buying the GM Goodwrench LM1 with 290HP. I like the sound of 300 better, so what's the easiest mod for 10 more ponies?
Les
Les:Just round it off to 300. Who the heck is gonna know except you???
Welll...all that read this thread will know.
10 more horse you won't even be able to notice so it's not even worth going for that small an amount.
Another cheap&easy mod is intake..
Depending on the intake you are using right now, you can make up to 20 HP with a performance intake....
Holley Team G Intakes work great...
You should definetely gain over 10 HP with a Team G....
I know how you feel. Mine came up to 490 HP or so. 500 would have sounded SOOOOO much better. But that was no water pump, or any other accesorries. Maybe a carb spacer would have helped, but the purpose of the dyno time was to tune, not brag
