My intake manifold gasket was leaking at the back, so I pulled the manifold and noticed that the rear rubber gasket (the 6 inch one that runs across the back) had slipped out a little and was allowing oil to "blow" out.
I cleaned everything good enough to eat off of, got new gaskets, put sealer on the corners, then correctly torqued the manifold back down. As I was tightening the manifold, the front rubber gasket started bulging out. I backed off the bolts, got the gasket back in place, then re-tighted the bolts. It seemed to stay, but after running the car for a couple of days, it popped out! @$#@$%$
Any ideas on how to make those things behave? I'm using fel-pro gaskets, which come with a choice of either dimpled rubber that fits into the block, or a "clamping" rubber. I used the dimpled one.
Obviously I'm going to have to take the manifold off again. I just want it to be the last time.
Toss the end gaskets and use about a 1/4" thick bead of permatex form a gasket, then let it set up 15 minutes before you set the manifold on, after you are all done trim off any excess gasket sealer that is forced out with a razor blade, and you should never have any leaks, I read this in a hot rod mag years ago and have always done it this way, also dont forget to put a little gasket sealer or liquid teflon on your intake bolt threads to prevent the oil coming up past the threads,
