Hi Guys
I have been working hard the last couple of weeks putting in a front end kit. The Control Valve has a shaft that is bolted onto the Pitman arm. This shaft that goes inside of the Control Valve has play ... this should not have play, correct ??
Does anyone in Canada Know of a good place to buy Corvette Parts ?
I like dealing in the States but the duty is always a killer .....
Depends a little on what you mean by play. The shaft that goes into the control valve needs to move freely back and forth. This is what controls the valve. If you've taken it appart to rebuild, you'll find that there is a sleeve inside the body of the valve that the shaft sits in that slides along the valve axis.
I didn't think that you had to pay duty on car parts under NAFTA. GST maybe, which is just as bad, but not duty.

Is the snow gone yet in Ottawa?
We don't pay duty. They have other things they call it when a part takes $50 to cross the boarder, a brokerage fee.
It is very costly to get things through the boarder.
Summit gives free shipping inside continental USA but for use to have to shipped a few miles to the boarder cost us dealer, then the brokerage fees and then shipping again. A fuel pump from Summit cost me $50 shipping with the other hidden fees.
We get alot less snow then alot of parts of the US.
the movement of this part doesn't feel right ... it's kind of hard to explain, the movement of the
shaft (?) is L- R ( lateral ) at the base of the shaft which is inside of the Control Valve. The
lateral movement happens when I move the steering from L-R -L
oh the snow was gone a couple of months ago , do you get many sand storms ... as you are close to Baja ...ha ha

yes I meant to say brokerage fees are the killer
is there not a good corvette place in the London area ?

As I recall, the piece didn't feel particularly firm, but the ball was held in place such that the bolt that attached to the Pitman arm could spin but not move muce at right angles to the valve.
Did you rebuild it? If so, are you sure that you got the cups in the proper orientation?
Otherwise, the simplest solution might be to assemble your parts and very carefully see how the power steering works. If it works fine, it might not be worth worying about.
The movement of the sleeve inside the control valve is what modulates the power steering fluid flow between the circuits, causing the ram to move. It is normal for the sleeve to move, by design.
