Default Engine dies during hard stops

Even when I shift into neutral my engine stalls during quick stops. I can prevent this by revving the engine as I am braking. Everything else is perfect with good idle great responsive acceleration. It restarts after a few cranks. I suspect some sort of carb issue. I have a Holley 650 with mechanical secondaries. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I would check for correct fuel bowl levels.

Lower the secondary bowl level.

In my case the correct response was to raise the fuel level in the fuel bowl (primary carb in a 3x2 setup). The fuel bowls are towards the front of my car and under hard braking the jets were coming uncovered and stalling out the engine.

Just my .02 for the day YMMV

Or even better, switch to a QJet.

In this situation, the 4150's secondary bowl has the gas pushed up against the metering block on a hard stop. If the fuel level is too high, gas will begin to drip out of the secondary booster(s).

Thanks for your posts. I will check the float levels in the morning and will also try dropping the secondary. Will report back. Thanks

Did it work? I'm having the same problem sometimes . It doesn't happen while braking after a 1/4 mile run, but might in a parking lot or coming to an abrupt stop in traffic from 40 mph.

I lowered both fuel bowl levels... a little. Don't want to mess with tuning too much. Last time at the track my car ran the same number 3 times! It might not be fast, but it's becoming consistent

The weather got very bad up here and I have not had a chance to try it. Today was the first good day. I will try it tomorrow and will let you know. I am going to start by lowering the secondary and double checking that the primary is set to spec.

Obviously your engine is crying out for attention ... and a big blower.
Good luck with the float adjustments.

I just finished some testing. First, I checked the levels and both primary and secondary and they were at the correct levels. I lowered the secondary a little and it did seem to make a difference but the problem is still there. Not as sensitive to braking but it will still stall when braking hard. Sometime this weekend I will try moving the secondary a little lower.

Sounds like the fuel level is set correctly. Have you considered trying a vent baffle to help with the fuel slosh? Some people call them whistles.
